Chapter 12

“What do you mean you’re not coming to my party?” said an upset Lisa.

“I meant just what I said. I will not be able to make it. This exhibit that is set to open next month is gaining more publicity and I want to make sure that I am in the mix on every aspect that happens. It’s just that simple.”

“You need to get laid.” Lisa said flatly.

“What the heck does that have to do with anything?” Cheryl responded chucking.

“You’re telling me that you are going to miss a chance to hang out to stay home and do work? Its only one night for a couple of hours, you either need to get laid or you need to tell me what is really going on.”

“Nothing is going on. It’s just like I said.”

“Yeah I heard you tell me that lie the first time. Now tell me what the real deal is or I’m coming over for a in person interrogation.”

They both laughed at that one but Cheryl knew that her opinionated and lovingly nosey friend was as serious as a heart attack.

“I saw Mahogany today and she looked as sad as you have been sounding for the past week; any connection?” Lisa said when Cheryl didn’t respond.

“She…I mean I.. We had a little disagreement.”

“Yeah I heard.” Lisa said plainly.

“You heard what?” Cheryl got up and leaned against the kitchen counter.

“ Mahogany told me and I want you to know that I am mad at both of you for not telling me what was going on. Besides I already knew that you two liked each other but I had no idea that it had gotten so deep. Why the secrets?”

Leave it to Lisa to get to the bottom of things.

“It was something we were dealing with. Just didn’t want to broadcast it. Wait a minute. How the hell did you end up finding out from her?”

“Well if you must know I’ m still a little hurt but that is not the issue at this point. We were walking from Jacks discount store on 33rd street, don’t you love the stuff there. I found so many things and…”

“LISA! Stay focused.” Cheryl interrupted because Lisa was known to change a

conversation six times before she got back to the original one posed.

“Well damn, aren’t we feeling rude today?” a sarcastic Lisa said dryly.

“Sorry.” Cheryl murmured.

“ All is forgiven. Anyway we were picking up a few things for the party when I mentioned that it would be like old times with everyone together. You know, like a reunion of sorts. I mentioned that I had been meaning to ask the both of you if you wanted to stay over for the night when the party was done. That is when Mahogany said that she would not be able to do that.”

“A sleepover?”

“Yes a sleepover.”

“You big ass kid” Cheryl accused.

“Whatever. Mah ogany started looking all weird and stuff and she asked if I had spoken to you about it. I told her no and she said that you probably didn’t want to be anywhere that she was at the moment.
